Reflections on the development of an integrated continuum of long-term care for older adults in Brazil

To catalyze the discussion and implementation of state policies for an integrated continuum long-term care (LTC), it is imperative to assemble strategic actions involving public private sectors, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, media, considering clear objectives improving lives older adults, their families, communities where they live. Care may be provided at home, in community, or LTC facilities (LTCFs) adults. In this essay, we focused on institutional care. Tensions between advocates different models people should include space dialogue, convergence, intersectoral actions, regardless provided. Conditions LTCFs not perceived as “last undesirable alternative” exist created so that these institutions are seen instead welcoming, productive, inclusive environments community its social, recreational, health systems. The aim essay was reflect urgency developing adults Brazil considers a right along with modalities delivery, flow, services, activities, well sustainable financing alternatives legal governance directives. This work divided into four sections: (1) aging social achievement right; (2) panorama sector Brazil; (3) change paradigms conceiving LTC; (4) framework achieving LTC.
